DomainsAlthough we offer you permanent usage of www.rapidsites.co.uk/username, we realise that for added professionalism you will most likely want to use an existing domain name, or a new one. If you are purchasing a new domain name in order to use our system, please do not use 1and1 as we are hosted with them, which means you cannot transfer your DNS servers as outlined below. Any other domain name vendor will work with us, as long as you can transfer your DNS servers. Alternatively, if you want to keep complete control of the domain (including email access), you can just use web-forwarding. There are two options that you can do to use your domain. 1. Transfer your DNS servers to ns33.1and1.co.uk and ns34.1and1.co.uk - this is the most reliable as there is a chance that 1and1, the reliable web hosting company that we are using, may change our IP address, which will be kept up to date via the 'DNS servers'. However, this will mean you will lose the ability to email using your domain name (if requested, we will forward something@your_domain_name.com to your email address). You will need to contact us before you do this to inform us of your domain name, as we need to accept your domain name transfer. 2. Use web-forwarding - using your provider, forward the web requests to www.rapidsites.co.uk/username. This will mean the title on the page won't change which is not ideal for search engines. However, no changes made by us or the hosting service provider will stop that working, and you can still use your email facilities, as you keep your DNS servers. | ||||||||||||
